“Recharge”

I was speaking to my husband the other day and I told him “I love me more than anything.” It wasn’t that we were having an issue, but it was more of a reminder that I needed to love me more. It is easy for us to tell someone “I love you” but when is the last time you told yourself? When was the last time that you looked in the mirror and said, “Self, I love you.” I love looking at social media and television and people promoting and talking about self care. It is truly important. I have failed so much in that area because I have put so much focus on my family, work, and church, that I forgot about me. I allowed myself to fall under the pressures of stress, so much so, I started gaining weight, overeating or lack of it, hardly sleeping, constant headaches, always tired, being grouchy, feeling sluggish, and feeling down. I talked about the changes that I was going to do and let it slip by day by day. I no longer focused on the things, or thing that mattered most….ME! It is easy to get caught up in your life that you forget to check in on yourself. But it is so important. With me being African American, I run into so many health risks that I can’t afford not to pay attention to it. I currently, at 34, suffer with high blood pressure because I have allowed stress to overtake me. Yes I said it, I allowed it. I allowed it so much, my body feels it daily. That is why it was so important for me to share that, because I don’t anyone else to have have to endure that. Nobody should have to feel so overwhelmed and burned out. Even if you take one day a week, allow yourself to recharge. Build yourself back up to the place where you can feel more relaxed and rejuvenated. Don’t let another day go by that you neglect the beautiful image that you see daily. Create a plan and stick to it. Let that be your focus. I am truly going to practice what I preach because I have slacked so much. But no day like to today to start your new journey. Get back to the things you enjoy outside of your family. Now is truly the time to do it. But I encourage you to recharge. Get back to you. I love you. Be encouraged. #buildingtime #SHESpeaks
